An amazing sight was witnessed on 26 November 2024 at the Uttaranchal Medical College of Ayurveda and Research, where hundreds of students stood in queues to donate blood. Six major blood banks collected blood with the assistance of over100 technicians and doctors. Blood donation began at 9 AM, and by noon, the blood banks were overwhelmed. Over 5,000 students registered for blood donation. After undergoing screening and based on their eligibility blood was collected from 1,025 students. The highest collection, 450 units of blood, was made by Mahant Indresh Blood Bank. The participating blood banks included Mahant Indresh Hospital, I.M.A. Blood Bank, Doon Hospital, Subharti Hospital, AllMS Rishikesh, and Himalayan Hospital, Jolly Grant.
The occasion marked the celebration of the 75th Constitution Day. Shri Munna Singh Chauhan, the state’s senior politician and MLA Shri Munna Singh Chauhan, was the chief guest. The program was presided over by Mr Jitendra Joshi, President of the University. It was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp and the collective reading of the Preamble of the Constitution in the gracious presence of Smt. Anuradha Joshi, Chairperson, Ms Ankita Joshi, Vice- President, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice- Chancellor and Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice- Chancellor, Dr Amit Bhatt, Campus Director, Dr Poonam Rawat, Principal Law College, Dr Ravi Joshi, Principal UMCAR.
In his address, Mr Munna Singh Chauhan commended students for setting an exemplary example by donating blood on Constitution Day, directly contributing into the state’s health services. In his presidential address, Mr. Jitender Joshi emphasized that the Indian Constitution stands as a unique testament to the wisdom, capability, experience, vision of the country’s selected freedom fighters.
A team of experienced doctors and medical staff from blood bank and UHDC were present throughout the event namely Dr Nitesh Gupta, Dr Rulika Nautiyal, Dr Surbhi Gupta, Dr Manik, Dr Priti, Dr Vibhuti, Dr Rajeev, Dr Vidyarani, Dr Savita, Dr Shivangi, Dr Richa, Dr Rupali, Dr Mudit, Mr Chandramohan, Mr Madhav, Mr Priyansh etc.
